Data Retention & Deletion Policy

Knit is designed to give you control over how your health data is stored, shared, and removed.
This policy explains what happens to your data at each stage.
Where Your Data Is Stored
When you connect Apple Health or add information in Knit, your health data is:
stored locally on your device, encrypted with a key kept in your device's keychain
stored in your Knit account on our servers, encrypted in transit and at rest, so your record is available on any device where you sign in
Your record stays in your account when you sign out, so your history isn't lost if you switch devices.
Research Sharing
Keeping your record in your account is part of how Knit works. Research sharing is a separate choice, made separately for wearable data and for medical record data. Contributed data is de-identified and may be included in research datasets provided to researchers and life-science partners. It is never provided to advertisers or data brokers. Research sharing is off unless you turn it on.
Turn research sharing OFF:
- stops your data from being used in future research datasets.
- does not change how the app works or delete your record
- cannot recall data already included in a de-identified dataset delivered to a partner
Deleting Your Data
If you request full account deletion:
All of your data is permanently deleted from Knit's servers
Your account and associated records are removed
Active sessions are invalidated
Some data may not be deletable if it was previously shared outside of Knit (for example, with research partners, if you opted in). This will always be disclosed clearly.
Transparency & Accountability
Key actions, such as turning research sharing on or off and deleting your account, are logged securely so Knit can verify that your choices are respected.
Privacy and Security
Your use of the Services is subject to our Privacy Policy and Security Policy, which describe how we collect, use, store, and protect your information.
By using the Services, you agree to those policies.
