Data Retention & Deletion Policy
Effective Date: 1/10/2026
Knit is designed to give you control over how your health data is stored, shared, and removed.
This policy explains what happens to your data at each stage.
Local Data on Your Device
When you connect a wearable of app, your health data is:
stored locally on your device
encrypted and protected by your device's security
Logging out of the app does not delete this data, so your history isn't lost if you switch devices or sessions.
Sharing Data with Knit
You can choose whether wearable data, app data, and/or medical record data is shared with Knit's servers.
Sharing OFF:
No new data is uploaded.Sharing ON:
Data is securely uploaded so it can be used across devices and features.
Only new or changed data is uploaded—unchanged data is not re-sent.
What Happens When You Turn Sharing Off
Turning sharing off:
Immediately stops future uploads
Does not delete data that was previously shared
Previously shared data remains securely stored so your experience and history stay intact.
Deleting Your Data
If you request full account deletion:
All of your data is permanently deleted from Knit's servers
Your accout and associated records are removed
Active sessions are invalidated
Some data may not be deletable if it was previously shared outside of Knit (for example, with research partners, if you opted in). This will always be disclosed clearly.
Transparency & Accountability
Key actions—such as enabling sharing, disabling sharing, and deleting your account—are logged securely so Knit can verify that your choices are respected.
Privacy and Security
Your use of the Services is subject to our Privacy Policy and Security Policy, which describe how we collect, use, store, and protect your information.
By using the Services, you agree to those policies.
Your Control Comes First
You decide:
What's shared
When sharing stops
When data is deleted
Knit's systems are built to enforce these choices.
