Why does the exhale matter?
Because your heart rhythm is already listening to your breathing.

It will not change your overnight breathing rate. That number reflects your body's metabolic needs during sleep, not your daytime practice. A steady nightly respiratory rate after weeks of breathwork is the expected result rather than evidence of failure. The practice is for the hours you are awake.
It is not a master switch for recovery signals. HRV and recovery scores answer to sleep, alcohol and training load first. A great practice streak can be entirely masked by a rough week, and that says nothing about whether the breathing is working.
